Things to do in Fort Lauderdale

Although most visitors come to Fort Lauderdale for the beautiful beach, downtown Fort Lauderdale got its charms and attractions. Fort Lauderdale has some worthy cultural and historical sites (especially the Museum of Art), and lovely areas for walking.

    Highlights

  • Visit the Museum of Discovery & Science. The Museum is among the best of Florida's many child-orientated science museums.
  • View the exhibitions at the Museum of Art. The Museum has an extraordinary collection of ethnographic art pre-Columbian, West African, Oceanic and its Dutch and french collections are quite good as well.
  • The Riverwalk is a really nice walkway along the north bank of the New River. You can eat in the nice restaurants right on the river with live outdoor entertaiment. Visit some shops. Take a river bus along the canals and see many beautiful homes and yachts.
  • To see the oldest structure in Fort Lauderdale, visit the Stranahan House. The building is a fine example of Florida frontier style, and served as the home and trading post of a turn-of the-twentieth-century settler, Frank Stranahan.
  • Spend some time at the Bonnet House Museum and Gardens. Designed and built in 1920, by Frederic Clay Bartlett, Bonnet House is one of the few complete homes and studios of a recognized American artist open to the public.
  • Take a narrated drive through Port Everglades over the Intercoastal Waterway and along the famous Fort Lauderdale Beach.
