Sports in Miami

The Miami sports scene includes several major professional teams, such as baseball, basketball and American football's Miami Dolphins. All of these sports are incredibly popular in Miami and matches are played regularly.

Fishing in Miami is much more than a hobby for many locals - it is a way of life. Thousands of anglers travel outside of Miami to enjoy the rich waters of the nearby Gulf Stream. Anglers in Miami tend to use heavy-duty roads and reels, to catch the hard-fighting marlin, dorado, sailfish and wahoo fish, which are plentiful in the Miami waters.

Football fans can watch the Miami Dolphins of the NFL play between September and January at Pro Player Stadium.

Miami Heat basketball team of the NBA plays from October to April at the AmericanAirlines Arena.

Miami's most recent World Champions are the Florida Marlins, who won the Major League Baseball World Series and also play at Pro Player Stadium.

Horse racing takes place in the lovely surroundings of Hialeah Park. Florida has been a thoroughbred racing center for more then 50 years.
